The
Bal Vikas is the primary basis of the great movement to restore
DHARMA in the world. It is raising a generation of boys and girls
who have clean and clear consciousness and the creation of an atmosphere
where noble habits, ideals can grow and fructify. (Sathya Sai Speaks,
Vol. 10, Page 163)
From
the year 1966, when Swami first suggested the idea of holding informal
sessions of story-telling and bhajans for children to a group of
Mahilas to the present day, the Bal Vikas movement has achieved
un-imaginable proportions.
In
Mumbai, there are 262 Bal Vikas centres wherein the 492 Gurus impart
emphasis on righteous conduct, unity of faiths, selfless service,
self-discipline, respect and love to the elders etc. through the
medium of stories, bhajans, spiritual games, group activities and
projects to the 2722 Bal Vikas children of the age groups spanning
5 years to 13 years.
